Loved it, but hadn’t heard it since I lost that tape, so thanks for bringing it back to me! I’m not a big fan of dub, but in this case it’s really the second dubby half that makes the track special. Track 6: I used to own this track on a mixtape, back in the day. Not my favourite old blues, but still a fine one, with an apt title. Who is it? Muddy? Possibly, could be anyone. Track 5: A blues classic, but not performed by its originator Sonny Boy Williamson. And not too keen on this track as a whole, sorry. The mix of classical/early music/folk song arrangement + slightly OTT dramatic pop song is a bit Kate Bush:y. Track 4: A flock of flutes is joined by strings in the intro, kettle-drums are banged and a breathy female voice starts to sing, one I don’t recognize at all. Don’t know who it’s by, but it’s brilliant! A pretty funky melodic loop repeats over the banging of metal sheets in a mechanical workshop, sort of. Instrumental clubby electronica – I never know what to call this kind of music… Begins sparse then builds, with some classy synthetic disco strings lifting it to another level. This is really great, I wish it was a longer 12” version as it ends way too soon! Makes me dance in my chair. Wow, these lyrics have aged rather badly (or maybe I just never listened to them properly before…) Track 2: A stone cold classic! Everyone knows it, but no spoilers, so I’m just going to say that I really liked his performance as a lizard in that animated film (dull film, great lizard). A bit New Age meets Chinese restaurant, but not nearly as bad as I just made it sound! No clue who it is. Thirteenth track: This is excellent too, just some spooky wistful accordion and a great 1: Church bells ring in an instrumental track with a guitar melody that is sounding very Chinese to my ears, with occasional faintly Celtic echoes. I’m guessing this is some famous Swedish opera then.

If there’s one track we’ll urge everyone else to listen to it’s this one.

Son has come in to tell me again how utterly fantastic it is. Touches on jazz with the piano and bass, but to call it jazz is too straight-forward. It has the slight amateur spooky percussion of the residents – and I love how it just starts and stops. Not sure I actually would listen to it voluntarily.Įleventh Track: Brilliant. He is so nearly singing ‘please can I kill them for the man’. Tenth Track: EPIC sax is back and bigger than ever. Is this a chronologically ordered mix as we seem to have arrived at mid-nineties shoegaze. Gentle loping folky-rock, which again no-one could object to.

Not a massive fan of acoustic guitar plus person.Įighth track: Love the Dire Straits vibe to the guitar. She sounds like the woman in Misery, who would feed you soup before she BROKE YOUR LEGS so you couldn’t run away from more soup. Seventh track: English – heavily accented English. Ps I am loving they are all 3 mins long so far – did Sweden have only 78’s up to the nineties. Sailors? Kid Creole style safari get ups?

On a TV spot I would like to think there were some good costumes to go with this. Sixth track: Breaking news: Sweden still in the grip of the eighties for the twentieth year in a row, this is a bit Modern Romance. This is my favourite actual track, track like (with 9). Everyone LOVES the epic sax again.įifth track: skinny ties, brothel creepers, NHS glasses. Imagine 10cc fronted by Adrian Gurvitz (obscure wet as a tissue 70s singer). Top chorus though – almost sounds like ‘dream lover’ but I’m guessing. But his voice has a touch of the ‘look at me I’m so sensitive’ about it. Everyone LOVES the epic sax.įourth track: This has a great opening twenty seconds.

Third track: Five years on – even through the language filter this sounds a bit angry and political, perhaps about a school for free hands? If you had a wall with Finland I can imagine this being played as it was knocked down. Touch of bonkernesses about it, whereas this is very very sensible. Actually, track one was more interesting. AOR – did Sweden had an album-track FM radio scene? Mid-seventies Fleetwood Mac’s fingerprints are all over this guv’nor. Second track: We’ve moved on ten years maybe. Not really my cup of tea, particularly the bloke going ‘da da da daaa da’ in the chorus. Remarks: the CD kept us all very entertained in the car to and from my parents, son in particular was very taken with track 10 which is a firm favourite.įirst track: if we’re not in the early seventies here, then it sure sounds like it.
